Start before the shutdown
A refractory shutdown is usually decided before the first section of lining is removed. The most useful scopes begin with the operating team’s observations: recurring hot spots, process instability, areas of repeated patching, and any shell-temperature concern. Capturing this information while the unit is still in service gives the inspection team context once access is available.
Build one inspection record
During the shutdown, use the same sequence for every lining zone. A labelled record makes it possible to compare the next outage with the last one instead of starting from zero.
